A Car Doesn't Have to Be Expensive to be Good
High-priced quality Chevrolets had been produced for a few years by Louis Chevrolet before the 1915 model. The Model 490, which was priced at $490, was built to compete with Ford's Motel T priced at $495. This was the beginning of a long competition between Ford and Chevrolet.
In 1915, both the 1914 Royal Mail and Baby Grand models were carried over with some changes. Some of these changes included the overhead-valve engine being referred to as a valve-in-head engine, electric starter became standard, larger diameter brakes were installed. Thermo-Syphoon cooling was used instead of a water pump and wheelbase were stretched to 106 inches.
The Baby Grand, which was offered in a gray or plum color, was priced at $875 with a Prest-O-Lite gas lighting and magneto or $1000 with full Auto-Lite electrical.
