A Brief History of Classic Chevrolet Cars

The Art of Antique Autos

If you ask anybody on the street if they have a hobby, the likely answer to that question is going to be an emphatic "yes!"

Now, if you were to specifically target a male audience for this question, the result will tend to be the same, but when asked what their hobby is, the majority are more than likely going to respond with cars -- probably classic cars -- as their answer.

This should really come as no surprise, the classic automobile has held the imagination and fascination of millions of people all across the country for many decades now, and likely, for many decades to come, too. In fact, the interest in classic cars is so great, that many people all across the United States often have invested greatly in this hobby from buying to selling classic cars, the kinship of those with this passion can not be denied.

Of course, as with any hobby, the participants often have their favorite model that is collected, and one of the most popular classic cars that people are interested in are those with the Chevrolet name.

The Chevrolet history is also happens to be as rich and diverse as the cars that bear the name and the classic Chevy bow-tie symbol. Begun in the very early 1900s, Louis Chevrolet -- for whom the cars were named -- began a partnership with a man called William Durant, together the two built the foundation for what would become the very successful General Motors car company with Chevrolet cars in a separate, also very successful division.

Unfortunately, the partnership was not meant to last as Mr. Chevrolet wanted to build fancier, more expensive vehicles for the higher class and Mr. Durant's vision was more of an all encompassing class of cars that could rival Ford and his Model T. Mr.

Durant bought the shares of the company that Mr. Chevrolet owned and thus set about creating one of the best known vehicles in American automobile history. It was his vision and attention to detail that has led the Chevrolet car to be one of the most prized for those selling classic cars.

To this day, the name Chevrolet lives on and even in the middle of reinventing themselves and their cars, there are literally thousands of people still selling classic cars that bear the Chevy name. It is a testament to the durability, craftsmanship and designs of Chevrolet that next year it will celebrate 100 years of American history.
